We are Lindsay Anderson and Dana VanVeller, Vancouver-based writers, adventurers, wanderlusts, and co-creators of FEAST: An Edible Road Trip, a cross-Canada adventure that brought us to all 10 provinces and all 3 territories in search of diverse and interesting stories of Canadian food culture. We first met at a music festival in Kelowna, immediately bonding around the glow of the fire and the smell of burning marshmallows. Fast friends, we were united by our desires to seek meaningful work, and a mutual love of food, dance parties, and the open road.
March 7th, 2017 saw the release of our cookbook, FEAST: Recipes & Stories of a Canadian Road Trip, a collection of recipes and stories based on the edible road trip. Check out our tour dates to see if we'll be in a city near you, read our summary of the book-writing process, get a behind-the-scenes look at the cover art decision, and check out the press we've been getting for #FEASTtheBook. Feel free to say hey.
Thanks for your interest!
Lindsay 'Iron Stomach' Anderson grew up in the wilds of Northern BC (a.k.a. the suburbs of Prince George). She holds a BA in Art History from the University of Victoria, and a Masters of Food Culture and Communications from the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy. Lindsay has a long and diverse history of work in food that includes personal blogging, herding goats, cheese-mongering, and cooking for hundreds of hungry tree planters. Last year, through her innovative and wide reaching #lindseatsrichmond campaign, she beat out 1,507 other applicants to become Tourism Richmond’s 365 Days of Dining Food Blogger. This job saw her eating out and writing about a different Richmond restaurant each day for an entire year. She’s been featured on CBC, Global TV, and CTV, as well as in the Vancouver Sun, The Province, The Globe and Mail, and The Huffington Post. Her work in Richmond sparked a desire to explore food on a national scale.
Dana, a firm believer in dark chocolate as a vegetable, hails from Sarnia, Ontario (yes, it's kind of like Narnia) and moved to British Columbia nearly 4 years ago as the result of a previous cross-Canada road trip. Dana holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from St. Stephen's University, has spent time studying in South East Asia and Europe, and is currently working towards a Certificate in Food Security from Ryerson University. Prior to the launch of FEAST, she was a program administrator at an English school for immigrants and refugees and authored the food blog, Spoon!, in which she experimented with new recipes - one of which was recently featured by Shape Magazine - and explored various cultural aspects of food.
