Tucked away in the Takhini Valley, outside of Whitehorse, is Bean North, the Yukon’s only fair trade and organic coffee roasting company. They’re a member of Cooperative Coffees, a green coffee-importing cooperative, which means they can purchase their coffee directly from the farmers who grow it. They sell online, wholesale, at various retail locations, and from their quaint café.
It’s surrounded by trees, and had the feel of someone’s charming summer cottage. We enjoyed an Americano and piece of biscotti on the porch, and marveled at how busy the place was despite its rural location.
Of course, should we have been surprised it’s popular? People will travel great distances for great coffee. You might want to head north.
